Artist Statement

I am an emerging Australian Artist whose work responds to themes of time, memory and duration. I feel a personal engagement with the natural environment and the way elements of nature can be depicted to create structures of preservation or to evoke thought.

My practice focuses on traditional materials used in a manner to convey drawing/painting as a conceptual process – exploring the nature of meaning making – a form of reverie. The art of making meaningful marks …  My work responds to and represents the passage of time through the layering of materials. A mastery of the medium has equal significance to the subject.  The structure and relationship of parts, together with the composition, balance between subject and negative space. My work reveals a closeness and understanding of my subject,  through gestural brushstrokes, luscious textures and colour harmonies.

My work is inspired by natural science and often addresses man’s behavioural relationships with animals.  It involves combining observations with memories and imaginings. Subject matter tends towards the affectionate, humorous and sometimes touches on issues of animal ethics and environmental awareness. Works offer  an insight into my interest in natural history, the wonder and brutality of human nature, folklore and superstition.
